Position Summary

This Team Member needs to be a self-motivated leader that is able to direct and coordinate activities of other Transportation Services personnel within patient care and ancillary support areas of the hospital and report any problems to the appropriate personnel. Provide training and operational orientation for all new staff members. Assist in ensuring staff compliance with all hospital and departmental proficiency training requirements.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

Team Member must be able to perform the following tasks and possesses the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Direct daily functions of the Patient Transportation Department
  • Possess excellent customer service and service recovery skills
  • Able to dispatch and efficiently manipulate and coordinate Transport Tracking and paging system while effectively communicating with patient care providers throughout the facility and Patient Transportation staff
  • Understands all intricate aspects of Patient Transportation.
  • Performs daily technical, safety, quality and productivity audits on Patient Transportation staff
  • Perform preventive maintenance and make needed repairs on wheelchairs and stretchers. Maintain accurate records of all maintenance performed
  • Deliver and/or pick up clean/dirty clinical equipment. Clean, sort, and re-tag equipment for replenishment in back up rooms on each unit. Deliver broken equipment to the Biomedical Engineering Department for repair
  • Maintain a database of equipment inventory and repair records for equipment replacement.
  • Demonstrate initiative and creativity to continuously improve services, departmental and interdepartmental processes, and any other activities that affect quality
  • Plan, organize, and render care for (neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric) patients within an assigned area ¿ Detailed knowledge of facility
  • Solely responsible for the replenishment of oxygen tanks throughout the facility
  • Responsible for maintaining Joint Commission and CMS regulations pertaining to stretcher, wheelchair, and oxygen tank storage
  • Respond to all Code Red alerts with appropriate equipment and personnel. Respond to HEIC with appropriate equipment and personnel.
  • Able to alert appropriate personnel and respond to a Transport Tracking system failure
  • Facilitate staff meetings and huddles
  • Ensure all team members have adequate resource to perform their duties
  • Round with patients and internal customers to follow up on customer relations issues
  • Transports and delivers items, equipment, and medications (excluding controlled substances and IV chemotherapy drugs) throughout the facility.
  • May have limited access to areas storing medications. Maintain, assemble, clean, and perform safety checks on Orthopedic equipment.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

Other Related Functions

  • May be called upon to assist in the transport of patients to all areas of the hospital. This would include assessing patients to determine the most effective method for transport.
  • Has the knowledge and ability to safely remove a telemetry unit from a patient.
  • Understands and demonstrates outstanding CTE behavior and attitude, which will support and facilitate the mission, vision, and values.
  • Must be able to work cooperatively with other staff members. Must be able to communicate effectively with professional staff and provide excellent customer service.
  • Must be able to complete tasks as assigned and work independently.
  • Familiar with MSDS book contents and procedures.

Qualifications

Education/Training

High School graduate or equivalent required. Licensure/Certification.

 

Licensure/Certification

  • Maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the American Heart Association.
  • If required for area, must complete and be certified in National Child Passenger Safety Certification (CPS) by Safe Kids USA.

Experience

Experience One (1) year of experience as a transporter or one year leadership experience.
