Provides quality patient care when performing diagnostic cardiology and/or vascular sonographic imaging and related procedures to demonstrate anatomy for interpretation and/or intervention under the supervision of the department supervisor, manager, or
director.
Demonstrates competency in routine noninvasive and/or invasive cardiology and/or vascular ultrasound diagnostics, and
equipment operation and maintenance.
• Performs routine assignments using existing procedure guidelines.
• Receives instruction, guidance, and direction from more senior level sonographers
• Uses prescribed guidelines or policies in analyzing situations.
• Has conceptual knowledge of theories, practices, and procedures within the job.
• Recognizes normal and abnormal anatomy and physiology in conjunction with obtaining and documenting pertinent clinical and
diagnostic information.
• Works closely with the cardiologist to perform noninvasive and/or invasive cardiology and/or vascular diagnostic sonographic
exams, and functions independently in the absence of the supervisor and/or manager.
• Exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complimentary to quality care.
• Delivers appropriate care while recognizing patient conditions and ensuring successful completion of procedures.
• Complies with all state and federal regulations applicable to each modality.
• Adheres to Orlando Health mission statements and commitment to excellence standards.
• Assesses the patient’s physical condition and age specific needs.
• Provides instructions that achieve patient cooperation and desired results.
• Performs proper patient identification, acquires patient’s clinical history, and assures that the information is accurately
documented.
• Position patient, equipment, associated devices and manipulates technical factors to achieve high quality images for
interpretation.
• Assesses diagnostic images for technical quality, proper annotation, and patient identification, ensuring that all relative anatomy
is demonstrated.
• Comprehends and complies with Quality Control standards and participates in all Quality Control tasks.
• Administers medical aid as required for any emergency situation.
• Applies appropriate standard precautions and personal protective equipment to prevent cross-contamination of contagious
diseases.
• Utilizes all Orlando Health computer systems effectively and accurately.
• Ensures safety of all customers.
• Maintains accurate and precise documentation. Accurately record verbal and telephone orders from physicians in the patient
record.
• Communicates openly and effectively with all members of the healthcare team.
• Participates in supervising student sonographers, orienting new sonographers, directing daily workflow, and participates in
quality and safety initiatives.
• Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal,
state, and local standards.
• Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Graduate of an accredited school of sonography. Depending on assigned department, meets education/training as required under established current American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) and/or Cardiovascular Credentialing
International (CCI) guidelines.
Licensure/Certification
Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers
(ARDMS); and
Registered in Fetal Echocardiography (FE); and/or
Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS);
and
Registered in at least ONE of the following registries: Adult Echo (AE), Fetal Echo (FE) or Pediatric Echo (PE); and/or
Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or Advanced Cardiac Sonographer (ACS) or Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer
(RCCS) through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI); and/or
Registered in Pediatric Echo and/or Congenital Echo for APH Cardiology Department; and/or
Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS); and
Registered in at least ONE of the following registries: Vascular, Phlebology, Neurovascular (through The American Society
of Neuroimaging (ASNI)); and/or
Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI); and
Maintains current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification.
