Position Summary

Responsible for the day to day operations within the clinical setting to ensure delivery of quality service and optimal patient flow.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Coordinates staffing needs and reviews coverage on a daily basis to meet patient care requirements.
  • Assists with the clinical evaluation of team members, completes written clinical performance evaluations and conducts timely team member assessments.
  • Participates in the hiring and evaluation of potential team members.
  • Monitors compliance with certifications, licenses and required education for team members.
  • Assists in the coordination and participates in the delivery of patient care ensuring compliance with physician orders and established policies, procedures and standards of practice.
  • Performs direct patient care activities as required to meet operational needs.
  • Interfaces with patients and families to provide instruction, promote participation in patient care and to coordinate respiratory activities.
  • Plans and evaluates compliance with organizational, regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Designs, implements and evaluates respiratory care models to improve the quality of service.
  • Utilizes evidenced based, quality clinical respiratory care practice consistent with respiratory care research, organizational and national practice standards.
  • Expresses ideas clearly and effectively in verbal and written communication to team members and groups.
  • Embraces, communicates and promotes change.
  • Utilizes effective fiscal management skills with financial resources.
  • Contributes to the strategic and financial planning of the unit/department
  • Cultivates exemplary customer service throughout the unit/department.

  • Precepts new respiratory care supervisors or mentors team members or new lead registered therapists

  • Manages various personnel functions including hiring, work assignments, coaching plans, and disciplinary actions.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of risk management concepts.
  • Participates in Process Improvement activities as assigned.
  • Able to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age specific needs and to provide respiratory care needed as described in the unit/department's policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Education/Training

  • Graduate from an approved school of Respiratory Care and Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the NBRC. Candidates can qualify by meeting the specified education requirements and/or the specialized experience requirements below:
  • Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Care, Cardiopulmonary Sciences, Business Administration or Health Science Administration;
    or
  • Associate Degree in Respiratory Care plus any NBRC Specialty Certification (NPS, RPFT, ACCS) or Asthma Educator Certification (AE-C) with documented supervisory and/or management experience.

Licensure/Certification

  • Maintains current professional license as a Registered Respiratory Therapist in the State of Florida.
  • Maintains current BLS/HealthCare Provider certificate; and as determined by specialty area ACLS, PALS, or NRP is required.

Experience

  • Three (3) years’ experience as a registered respiratory therapist in the acute care setting.
