Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital is a comprehensive tertiary care facility that has been serving St. Petersburg and the surrounding communities for more than 100 years. About the Chief Operations Officer

 

Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital is seeking a dynamic and experienced Chief Operations Officer (COO) to lead hospital operations in alignment with Orlando Health's Strategic Plan. This executive role oversees the development and execution of high-quality, cost-effective programs and services that support exceptional patient care, physician collaboration, and team member engagement.


The COO provides strategic and operational leadership to ensure system-wide initiatives are effectively integrated into daily hospital functions. Through direct oversight and delegation to senior leaders, the role fosters a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement—driving performance and advancing organizational goals.

 

Essential Functions

  • Assumes President’s responsibilities in President’s absence.
  • Initiates, develops and implements the strategic planning process for the Hospital.
  • Participates in the development and oversight of the Hospital budget.
  • Develops new business strategies to enhance market share and overall performance.
  • Prepares reports, performs analysis and review of services provided to ensure quality, cost effectiveness and appropriateness in the designed departments. Coordinates with chief medical officer, medical directors, medical staff members to ensure necessary input and evaluation of services, as well as strategic initiatives.
  • Negotiates other contracts as needed to achieve strategy operational objectives.
  • Ensures structure of high performing management team with clear accountabilities in all areas within Hospital operations. Hires and retains the right people in the right jobs.
  • Ensures that departments are properly organized, managed, supervised and staffed.
  • Ensures culture of customer services throughout operations.
  • Ensures that operations conform to local, state and federal governmental regulations.
  • Coordinates operations as appropriate with other Orlando Health executives and administrators.
  • Establishes and maintains an open communication process throughout the corporation that reaches patients, visitors, families and team members, such that each feel they are treated special each time they have an encounter at Hospital.
  • Enhances professional growth and maintains awareness of current industry trends, legislation or research which could impact strategy or operations in healthcare.

Qualifications

 

Education:

    • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field is required.

Licensure/Certification:

    • FACHE credentialing through the American College of Healthcare Executives preferred.

Experience:

    • Minimum of eight (8) years progressive management experience in a Hospital setting, to include at least two (2) years as a Senior Executive. 
    • Demonstrated leadership and complex organizational management skills.
    • Well-developed marketing, organizational development and business skills.
