Job Summary

The Rehabilitation Therapist Clinical Specialist is utilized to advance rehabilitation practices, improve outcomes through the commitment to research and evidence-based medicine and provides clinical expertise to effect system-wide changes to improve programs of care.

 

Essential Functions

  • Demonstrates an awareness of legal issues, patient rights, and compliance with regulatory and accrediting agencies.
  • Serves as a clinical resource, participates in performance improvement teams and activities, participates in regulatory activities, assists in program development, works with others to facilitate collaboration and teamwork along the continuum of care for patients, and assists in orientation activities for team members.
  • Responsible for the day to day guidance of team members in the assigned business unit.
  • Serves as a professional staff member working with other professional staff evaluating and treating patients according to professional standards of practice of his/her specific discipline.
  • Contributes to the gathering of information and conducting of research with the goal of improving outcomes for individuals receiving care under the program and enhancing evidence-based practice.
  • Plays an active role in the dissemination of information and research findings to patients, family members, health care providers, educators, policymakers, and the general public.
  • Demonstrates judgment and reasoning abilities to problem solve and create new opportunities for improvement.
  • Responsible for maintaining unit inventory and participating in the hiring of new employees.
  • Responsible to the Rehabilitation Manager/Supervisor for business assessment, growth, and development of a strategic business plan.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
  • Schedules staff and patients appropriately.
  • Meets with professional associates.
  • Participates in community activities.
  • Submits at least one abstract per year and/or give a formal presentation for dissemination of information and research findings.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to age of the patients served on his/her business unit.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the unit’s/area/department’s policies and procedures.
  • Participates in program development, student supervision, assigned committees, safety, and infection control as required.
  • Practices efficient use and selection of supplies and equipment.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Education/Training
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy or Speech Language Pathology.

Licensure/Certification
Current license in the State of Florida as an Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist or Speech Language Pathologist. If, Speech Language Pathologist, must also have current Certificate of Clinical Competence. Maintains current BLS certification.

Experience
Two (2) years of clinical experience in the area of specialty.
