Position Summary

Summary

Performs a variety of duties and responsibilities in support of Physician's surgical practice including, but not limited to, triaging phone calls, preparing charts and obtaining a variety of patient diagnostic information from Radiology, Labs and other areas as required

What you will do

  • Coordinates various administrative functions for practice including scheduling various consults and diagnostic studies Performs in the role of first assistant to the surgeon, demonstrating knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and carrying out functions that will assist the surgeon in performing a safe operation with optimal patient results. Performs under the direct supervision of the operating surgeon.
  • Responsible for maintaining a working knowledge of all surgical procedures and effectively providing assistance to the surgeon during those procedures requiring an assistant.
  • Activities to include, but not limited to, positioning the patient, draping the patient, clamping and tying, cauterizing superficial bleeders, providing exposure through the use of retractors, maintaining a dry field through the use of suction equipment, following and cutting sutures, suturing subcutaneous suture and skin, and wound closure as directed by the surgeon.
  • In performance of duties must display knowledge and skill in tissue handling, providing exposure, using instruments, suturing, provision of homeostasis asepsis, and infection control.
  • Recognizes safety hazards and initiates appropriate preventative and corrective action.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in perioperative nursing practice in both scrub an circulator roles in all surgical specialties.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates clinical expertise and advanced decision making skills; using the nursing process framework to focus on the patient’s needs.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the unit’s/area’s/department’s policies and procedures.
  • Assumes the responsibility for professional growth and development, and continuing education.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Successful completion of an accredited Registered Nurse First Assistant training program including didactic and supervised clinical learning components.
  • Three (3) years of recent diversified perioperative nursing experience required including proficiency in both circulating and scrub nurse roles.
  • Maintain current nursing licensure in the State of Florida.
  • Current CRNFA or CNOR certification by Competency & Credentialing Institute (CCI).
  • Current CPR certification
